BP FALLON'S WANG DANG DOODLE INTO 2007
AULD LANG SYNE: FOUR HOURS OF RADIO RAMALAMA!
Our multi-tasking fave DJ once again brings Ireland - and the whole wide world on the web - into the New Year from the Dublin studios of the top Irish radio station TodayFM with his annual sonic extravaganza BP Fallon's Wang Dang Doodle Into 2007.
"I'm honoured" notes our man with the jukebox tan. "And it's such an excellent vibe that the whole boogaloo can be heard live all over the world".
Indeed, when he's on the air listeners to the radio and the web may send txt msgs or emails direct to BP in the studio. "No longer does one sit there wondering if anyone's out there. It's an added pleasure that this is interactive broadcasting".
In previous years, BP has played unreleased tracks by everyone from The Beatles and The Stones to Bob Dylan and John Lennon to Mick Jones and Courtney Love. This year among his beloved new and old grooves our outlaw DJ will include unreleased music from Keith Richards and Pete Doherty - plus the world premiere of the Semi Precious Weapons tracks produced by Tony Visconti!

FALLON GETS STONED AGAIN
THE
ROLLING STONES AT NEW YORK'S INTIMATE BEACON THEATRE
The
music of The Rolling Stones is about sex and blood and death and redemption
and joy and more sex.
“The Rolling Stones, they're a great
fucking group!” mad ol' Phil
Spector enthused in the grooves of The
Stones 1964 recording Andrew's Blues and it was true then and it's true today and it's true tonight
at New York's 2,800 seat Art Deco vaudevillian Beacon Theatre.
Jagger the lithe showman, tight English rock star arse and rock star skinny body, more energy than
a cat on a hot tin roof, cunning lyrics from those child-bearing
labial lips.

And Keef and Ronnie and MJ when he’s guitaring, these cats can fucking play, this lascivious cauldron of rock’n’roll, blues, country– “Well, we’ve got the hang of it by now” as KR said to BPF somewhere in Germany – and Keef and Ronnie knit and weave their guitars like two old smiling biddies at the foot of the guillotine and Charlie’s great tonight and every night and the catalogue of songs from their forty-plus years is remarkable, a few of which they now air for our sonic delectation: Jumping Jack Flash, Shattered, All Down The Line with Bobby Keys and the brass blaring, Sympathy For The Devil with Lisa Fischer wailing, Some Girls with MJ omitting the line "Black girls just wanna get fucked all night", Tumbling Dice, Start Me Up, Brown Sugar… even Satisfaction sounds vaguely fresh and in Honky Tonk Woman at Mick’s exaggerated delivery of “I laid a divorceeee in Noo Yoik citteaaa!” the Big Apple audience goes even more ape.
We all feel well lucky to be here.

BP FALLON GETS WEAPONIZED
SEMI PRECIOUS WEAPONS GET FALLON
It's been an open secret in the US music business for several months and now it can be confirmed - BP Fallon is the manager of the hottest new group in America, Semi Precious Weapons.
Says BP "I had no choice. SPW are putting the madness and joy back into rock'n'roll... their music celebrates and elevates and liberates and yes, they'll annoy a few people but that's fine too. And Justin Tranter is one of the most charismatic creatures I've ever met".

Says Semi Precious Weapons mainmain Justin Tranter "A friend of mine sent me to BP's website and after reading two sentences of The Beep Bio I knew this man had to hear me and my band play. I figured if any geezer of importance in NY was going to understand what we were doing, it was him. And after the first time SPW played at Death Disco in New York, BP got on the mic and said 'When these cats got on stage I thought they'd either be crap or brilliant. They're fucking brilliant'.
Justin continues "Nine months later I see that not only does Mr Fallon understand what I'm doing but he understands it better than I do. What a pair we make - the six foot tall platinum blonde frontman of variable sexuality and the five foot tall bald rock'n'roll Yoda! It's a marriage made in glam heaven".
...AND TONY VISCONTI COMES ON BOARD!

THE THRILLER WITH THE KILLER
JERRY LEE LEWIS: LAST MAN STANDING
He sang in a desultory manner, done it a million times, drawled out Chuck's mighty duo of Sweet Little Sixteen and Roll Over Beethoven and his own double dynamite 1957 explosion of Great Balls Of Fire and Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On, wasn't about to burst a gut at 6.30pm in a New York record store to a bunch of Jerry Lee nutters and a posse of hungry photographers. "You here for work or for fun?" you ask one of the snappers. "Work" he says glumly and you immediately hate him. This fellow's photographing The Killer and he doesn't know how brilliant that is. Idiot.
So Jerry Lee's on autopilot but those hands on the keyboard of the beautiful fire-engine red Baldwin piano... the fingers, they dance, run up and down the keys, tinkle 'em, pound 'em, bash 'em, poke 'em, caress 'em oh so fine and oh so effortlessly and he isn't even trying... well, he's an old cat now... years of hellraising and more drugs and drink than all his Sun Records label-mates Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Roy Orbison combined. Had more wives than all of 'em, too. And ol' Jerry Lee Lewis is the last man standing.

NOW AND ZEN AND THE DENOUEMENT OF DEBBIE HARRY

Mick Jones and BP Fallon are crouched against a wall on Seventh Avenue, pretending to ignore the biting cold wind. These two chums have just snuck out of Movida - the New York club where BP is DJing the 61st Birthday Party of his friend Bob Gruen, the legendary rock'n'roll photographer - for a little Jazz Woodbine vibe.
People hurrying by do a double-take at the man in the elegant suit and the twinkling eyes. One geezer, insulated against the cold by a tatty Ramones t shirt over his corpulent frame, kneels before his Clash hero Maestro Jones and kisses the pavement.

LET THEM EAT CAKE…
DEATH DISCO NYC SUNDAY AFTERNOONS ALL AGES AT THE CAKE SHOP!
The new season of Death Disco’s Sunday Afternoon All Ages shows kicks off at New York’s Cake Shop this Sunday Sept 10. Cake Shop hosted the last DD Sunday event – starring Franco V And The High Class Elite, Young Lords and The So-So Glos plus DJ Mathilde Hildebrandt – to resounding success.
“Cake Shop’s brilliant” notes DD mainman BP Fallon. “Upstairs there’s one of the hippest little record stores in New York – even the album covers on the wall merit a visit – and there’s the café where you can drink tea or coffee and munch cupcakes all day while listening to the records being spun… and then downstairs where the gigs are and the bands play there’s the live rocking and dancing. It’s perfect”.
Death Disco faves ModRocket – who return to DD direct from recording in LA - will be the resident band for the three Sunday September dates, with our fab foursome of Alice, Alex, Alanna and Sandra being bookended at each show by two more super-vibey combos.
The first gig opens with pre-teen sensations Tiny Masters Of Today – 12 year old Ivan on guitar and his 10 year old sister Ada on lead vocals and bass, joined for this show by their producer Russell Simins of The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion on drums – and climaxes with Used To Be Women, the hot new band led by Derek Stanton the awesome singer/guitarist in Awesome Color who humbly calls the mighty UTBW “another group of hoodlums from Detroit making noise in the city”.
And meanwhile just around the corner, the flagship Death Disco @ The Annex Wednesdays will naturally continue in all their over-age over-the-top glory!

WE
DID IT FOR LOVE
WE CELEBRATE THE MUSIC AND MAGIC OF ARTHUR LEE AND LOVE
Following the recent sad death of Arthur Lee, we reflect on the extraordinary New York benefit concert in June for the Love mainman.“Bernard, you old tart!” exclaims Robert Plant with a big grin on his bearded face as he greets the new arrival, breaking away from a group of people to hug his skinny chum. Will the circle be unbroken? Yes.Robert, he’s standing backstage at The Beacon Theater when Bernard Patrick Fallon ambles in laden down with CDs and cameras and a candle and incense and a little soundsystem for his dressing room and a plastic bag of electric light-up red peppers for around the top of his DJ booth. BP’s DJing tonight’s concert ie playing in between band changeovers. His friend with the smiling rural face Robert Plant is topping the bill, singing for the first time ever with an American band. This Plant and Fallon… well, it’s been many a mile and many a smile since they worked together professionally. Mind you tonight, it’s hardly professional in the “We’re getting paid” mode, seeing as they’re giving of their services free to raise money for Love mainman Arthur Lee who’s got acute myelogenus leukemia and is already facing $100,000 in medical bills.

CARL BARAT DJs AT DEATH DISCO NEW YORK!
A PRETTY DIRTY NIGHT WITH A DIRTY PRETTY THING!
Carl Barat hopped off the plane from London at JFK, popped into The Roseland Ballroom to dig Arctic Monkeys and then high-tailed it to Death Disco New York to DJ up a storm. The Boppin' Barat opened with The Fabs and Paul's shout of "One, two, three, fuh!" into I Saw Her Standing There before slapping on Brown Sugar by The Stones and Carl's leaping about behind the decks as is everyone else on the dancefloor and from then on in it's somewhat of a kaliedescopic blur, adventures in the ozone laced with rock'n'roll and bright young things and another bright young Thing too, all doing the boogaloo and the shimmy shimmy shake and the let's-twitch-awhile... or something.
Carl arrived at DD with Dirty Pretty Things guitarist Anthony Rossomodo and their man of the world, Creation's reknowned Stephen King. Our pal Mr King, he manages these DPT retrobates with our esteemed Death Disco co-founder Alan McGee. "We're a happy family, we're a happy family", The Ramones once sang and BP played The Ramones sliced into The Ventures as well as a bunch of cuts from his fave new album Riot City Blues by Primal Scream plus The Black Keys and Red Organ Serpent Sound and Shirley Ellis and Peter Vogelaar with John Lee Hooker and The Libs' song that namechecks Death Disco, Don't Look Back Into The Sun.

YOUTH GONE WILD... BLOOD ON THE GLITTERIST
SEMI PRECIOUS WEAPONS... THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT
If The Sweet had had brains, they still couldn't have been more colourfully contagious than this going-for-it gang who's compelling lead vocalist frontman is a 21st Century Boy mutant morphing of Ziggy with a bad hangover, Iggy with a mad stylist and Freddie Mercury on the high notes, all drama and quivering tonsils and his hand going up in the air like he's going to drop down a yo yo out of it at any moment. Johnny Thunders, bless him, he'd've laughed at them and then got up to jam and had a ball. What a groove.
They're Semi Precious Weapons - a name maybe humble or maybe exaggeration - and they're rising like steam on fire from the midtown underbelly of New York City.
The band performed a ridiculously-mesmering high-octane set with singer Justin 'Precious' Tranter moulded into high-waisted woman's tights so tight they firmly leave no doubts about his gender, his neck and naked upper torso made up like fresh on flesh glistening blood glittering, an extreme "Whoops, I slit my throat while shaving!" vibe via Dante and Fellini dancing with holy madness and the girls in the audience hipping to it, hotly.

Our Mr Fallon was one of the architects of
what became known as Glam Rock when he worked

it he'll doubtlessly turntable some hot tunes from that glittering
era, from Bolan and Bowie to Brian Eno and Brett Smiley, via
Roxy, Mott, Iggy and Lou... and Lulu doing The Man Who Sold

With

London's
four provocative pop punk princesses The Fairies
returned to DD NYC to drive the men [and
women] crazy with lust and a laugh.
Tinky and Tinsel and Twinkle
and Sparkle, they sound like a foul-mouthed
Elastica with a dose of The Slits
but they're even more fun, lining up on stage like some warped
St Trinians-meets-Barbarella
tableau to shake a tailfeather or four and sing their banned
underground classic Pink Socks Rock, with its rousing chorus
of "Lick my clit, kick my clit!" Shouldn't be allowed, really.

ALAN
McGEE DD NYC SURPRISE & SURPRISING DJ SET!
CONFESSIONS
ON THE DEATH DISCO DANCEFLOOR!
Death
Disco co-founder Alan
McGee jetted into New York from
The SXSW Festival in Austin,
Texas, to do a fantastic and poptastic DJ
set at DD NYC.
The maverick maestro of Britpunk kicked off
daringly with Johnny Cash's spellbinding
reading of Trent Reznor's Hurt
- before getting the jam-packed dancefloor jumping with Hard-Fi
[Cash Machine], Amerie [One Thing]
and Roxy Music [Do The Strand]. In a playful
mood, he led us down Pop Tart Avenue and pulled out excellent
unusual-for-DD choices like Gwen
Stefani [What You Waiting For?], Pink featuring
Scratch [Respect], Beyonce with Jay Z
[Crazy In Love], Destiny's Child [Independent
Women] and even our chum Madonna with Confessions
On A Dancefloor. And everyone went mad for McGee's
menu. Let's dance, indeed!
Alan, smiling benignly at the throbbing throng,
he whipped 'em up into a lather before hanging out awhile
to dig Silver
Rockets, the fine new Country-Noir-meets-Twin-Peaks
combo fronted by ex-Mercury Rev guitarist
Paul Dillon that also contains members of
Oceanographer,
Anorak and Cardinal. And then McGee
was gone, ready to catch a dawn flight to DJ in London
and then on for more get-'em-going spinning at Death
Disco Budapest. What a man.

BP defied the talk station's music rules
and pulled a few records out of his bag.

BEHIND THE MUSIC: SLEUTHS SEEK MESSAGES IN LYRICAL BACKSPIN
"Reverse-Play Audio Software Uncovers Smoke,
Satan; A Led Zeppelin Enigma And A Quote From BP Fallon"
- WALL STREET JOURNAL front page story
Monday Jan 9 2006
The Wall Street Journal asks "Are there secret
backwards messages hidden in music?" and in part reports:
"I'm sure it's not intentional," says a spokesman
for Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul
Jones about the alleged satanic reference in Stairway
to Heaven. "And I don't believe they've ever
discussed it."
BP
Fallon, who worked as Led Zeppelin's
publicist during its 1970s heyday, added in an email message:
"Play anything backwards, and you'll find something."
He suggested that the mysterious backward lyric might actually
be "Oh, here's to my sweaty satin," a reference
to guitarist Jimmy
Page's trousers!

ALLEN GINSBERG’S 50th HOWL
In
celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the
first public reading of Allen
Ginsberg's groundbreaking poem Howl,
a motley crew of poets, artists and angelheaded hipsters burning
for the ancient heavenly connection marked the occasion by
gathering together to read from Ginsberg’s
work in aid of charity.
Taking
part in the Dublin festivities and reading
from Ginsberg’s cannon were poets Theo
Dorgan, Gabriel Rosenstock, Noel
Sweeney, Dermod Moore and Tony
Curtis plus comedian Tommy Tiernan
- who read the whole of Howl and its footnotes
to exhilarating effect - Labour Party politician Fergus
Finlay, writer and social activist Eamon
McCann, editor of Hot Press Niall Stokes,
songwriter and singer Hazel O’Connor
and broadcaster and writer Eamon Dunphy.
And BP Fallon read Ginsberg’s
Father Death Blues.
Compered
by Myles Dungan from RTE Radio 1's
Rattlebag programme, the Howl event
- the first of many across the world - was in aid of the Dublin

SHANE MACGOWAN & BP FALLON SOCK IT TO ‘EM!
Shane
MacGowan dressed in black like some benign
Dickensian character apparitions onto the Rehab
stage as BP Fallon’s decks are exploding
with bits of Bowie. It's BP's DB
Goes To Rehab mashup and the fiesty full-voiced audience,
they're roaring along with ol' Ziggy, screaming
"Oh, don' lean on me man cos y'can' afford the ticket,
I'm back from Suffragette City!" as
BP gleefully fucks with the faders. Yup, a total blam blam.
It
had started off great – queues from the door all down
the quays, a jam-packed house full of vibey people –
and had gotten even better.
BP
- the self-effacing maestro MC DJ in his Bob
Dylan Subterranean Homesick Blues t shirt doubtlessly
scored in some dodgy dive in the West Village
– he’d wound the throng up into a foaming lather
with everything from Artic Monkeys and Von
Iva to Towers Of London and Morningwood
via twelve-inchers from PIL and The
Stones – Rise and Miss
You, fact fans – and everyone going completely
King Kong to The Isley Brother’s roof-raising
testifyer Shout following The
Beatles adrenaliser Twist And Shout.
“Well, shake it up baby…” and “We-e-e-e-e-e-e-ell,
you know you make me wanna shout, kick my heels up an’
shout throw my hands up an’ shout throw my head back
an’ shout come on now!” and yes they do, everyone
at the front, at the back, on the stairs, up in the balcony,
all taken by the music dancing to some manic choir from the
bright side of the tracks. It's like out of a movie.
“Say that you love me!” Magic, baby.
Now
Shane
MacGowan has checked himself into Rehab
to DJ, having come here directly from singing with The
Pogues to 8,500 ecstatic fans at The Point.

Shane,
all throughout his 1 hour 40 minute DJ set, admirers clamber
up onto the Rehab stage to shake his hand
or thrust a bit of paper at him to sign. When he can't find
a handy pen, he uses a handy ciggie to burn his mark. Rehab's
already rockin' and Shane's very presence
generates an even higher energy upsurge. The celebrated Ronnie
Drew - who sang The Irish Rover with
Shane at The Point - Ronnie, he says of BP
Fallon, "He gives spirit". Well, Shane
gives spirit too, mighty stuff. And not just the
stuff you can drink. What
Shane did next>>>

MADE
IN THE UK: THE MUSIC OF ATTITUDE 1977-1983
BP
Fallon is one of the artists pictured in the new
book Made In The UK: The Music Of Attitude 1977-1983
by feted British photographer Janette Beckman.
In this celebratory sociological document, photographs of
the contrasting youth movements of punk, mod, skinhead, 2-Tone
and quiffed-up Teddy boys jostle alongside portraits of pop
culture icons like John Lydon, Joe
Strummer, Pete Townsend and Siouxsie
Sioux.
Peppered with quotes from Strummer, Lydon, Madness,
The Specials’ Jerry Dammers, Boy
George and Paul Weller, this
tremendous tome boasts a foreword by fashion designer Paul
Smith and incisive essays by Vivien Goldman
and Paolo Hewitt. Exemplary.
